Degrees in the Obedience Training

Animal trainers do not have any specific degree requirements to work in their field, though many organizations offer programs for individuals to learn how to train animals. Cynology College in Ontario, Canada, offers a variety of diplomas in dog behavior training and agility training. Another such organization is the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which offers courses in becoming a dog trainer.

There are also many organizations that offer voluntary certification that many trainers choose to pursue. The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers certifies pet dog trainers with at least a high school diploma or GED, 300 hours training experience, and references. The certification test reviews learning theory, husbandry, instruction skills, equipment, and ethology. Big Cat Handler certification is offered by the Siberian Tiger Conservation Association for those interested in learning how to work with tigers.
